Why do we exist as a church? The answer to this question is best summed up in our vision statement. Marr’s vision is:

“To be a lighthouse whose primary focus is on impacting our community with the love of God and the good news of Jesus Christ. We will introduce individuals and families to Christ and seek to bring them to spiritual maturity.”

What does our “vision” mean to us? To be a lighthouse…

God has entrusted us with the “light” of the Gospel and we are to be a “light” in a dark and dying world. We are not to hide this light, but set it up in a place where all can see and come to know Christ. “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:1

…whose primary focus is on impacting our community…

The Lord left the disciples with the responsibility of reaching their world and making disciples of all people. They were to start first in Judea, their own “community.” We have the responsibility to carry on the task of reaching our world, beginning with our community first. “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

…with the love of God and the good news of Jesus Christ.

In order to reach our community with the good news of Jesus Christ we must first reach them with the love of God. This is the example which Jesus gave us as He went among the multitudes and demonstrated the love of God to them. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

We will introduce individuals and families to Christ…

Many people are seeking a relationship with God. The Bible says this relationship can only be found through faith in Jesus. Our goal is to “introduce” people to Jesus through our lives and through the pages of Scripture. Jesus answered, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.” John 14:6

…and seek to bring them to spiritual maturity.”

Jesus was very clear, and the Scriptures remind us again and again, that we all bear a responsibility to help one another mature in our relationship with God and with other people. Much of our ministry at Marr is focused on equipping people to minister to one another in order to accomplish this task. “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-13
